Tragedy struck in the Ring Road community of Owode Egba, Obafemi/Owode Local Government Area in Ogun State, as a man identified as Sholola Kazeem attacked his wife, Sholola Mutiat, with hot oil and stabbed her in the head.
The horrifying incident, which occurred on Saturday, January 18, 2025, followed a heated disagreement between the couple. According to CSP Omolola Odutola, the spokesperson of the Ogun State Police Command, Kazeem acted in uncontrollable anger during the altercation.
Community members quickly alerted the police, prompting swift intervention by the Divisional Police Officer of Owode Egba division. “On January 18, 2025, at about 12:20 pm, we received reports from the Ring Road community about a domestic violence incident involving Sholola Kazeem and his wife,” Odutola stated.
Reports revealed that during the altercation, Kazeem poured boiling oil on his wife’s body, causing severe burns, before stabbing her in the head. The victim was immediately rushed to Ore Ofé Hospital, where she is receiving medical treatment for her injuries.
Police operatives examined the crime scene and apprehended Kazeem, who is currently in custody as investigations continue. The Ogun State Police Command has assured the public that justice will be served.
This shocking case of gender-based violence has sparked outrage, with many calling for stricter measures to protect victims of domestic violence in Nigeria. Neighbors and community members are demanding justice for the victim and greater awareness of the dangers of unchecked anger and abuse in relationships.
