In a shocking incident in Cross River State, a man identified as Mathias Amunde has been arrested by the Cross River State Police Command for allegedly killing his mother with a stick. The disturbing event took place in the Obudu Local Government Area of the state.

How The Crime Unfolded

According to an interrogation video that was shared by an Instagram user, @isaacfayoseoriginal, the suspect, Mathias Amunde, confessed to the crime. In the video, Amunde stated that he, alongside an accomplice, Walcot, attacked his mother using a stick. After the brutal assault, they dragged her lifeless body outside and disposed of it in a well.

Amunde, while being questioned by the police, revealed that after the murder, he and Walcot transported the body to a well. “I and Walcot killed her. We killed her with a stick. Walcot has gone to his house. After we killed her, Walcot dragged her out of the house and we jointly dragged her to the well,” Amunde said.

Once they reached the well, Amunde claimed to have opened it, and together with his accomplice, they threw the body into the well. However, after the incident, Amunde mentioned that Walcot fled the scene.

Police Investigation And Arrest

The Cross River State Police Public Relations Officer, Irene Ugbo, confirmed the arrest in an exclusive interview. She added that the suspect would be transferred to the police headquarters for further investigation. “Yes, he has been arrested. He will be transferred to the police headquarters for further investigation tomorrow (Tuesday),” Ugbo stated.

This gruesome crime has sent shockwaves through the community, and local authorities have promised to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident.

Reactions And Ongoing Investigation

Residents of Obudu and surrounding areas have expressed disbelief over the brutal nature of the crime. Many are left wondering how a son could commit such an unimaginable act against his own mother. The police have assured the public that justice will be served, and the investigation into the role of the accomplice, Walcot, will continue.
