Tragedy struck in Osogbo, Osun State, on Thursday, January 2, 2025, when a clergyman, Bishop Shina Olaribigbe of Rapture Empowerment International, was stabbed to death in a heated altercation. The shocking incident unfolded when the husband of a woman, identified as a member of the church, reportedly found the bishop on his wife’s bed during a quarrel.

According to reports, the deceased clergyman had gone to visit the woman, who was said to be unwell, at her residence. The woman, an interpreter at Olaribigbe’s church, was estranged from her husband, though they were not officially divorced. Sources revealed that Bishop Olaribigbe had often intervened to mediate disputes between the couple, whose marriage had been plagued by frequent conflicts.

Eyewitness accounts state that the enraged husband arrived at his wife’s residence unannounced and found the pastor in her bedroom. Overcome with anger, the man allegedly accused the bishop of having an inappropriate relationship with his wife. In a fit of rage, he stabbed the clergyman multiple times in the chest, killing him on the spot.

A member of the church who wished to remain anonymous said, “The Bishop went to visit the woman because she had been sick for a while. Her husband came to the house and saw him in her room. Out of anger, he picked up a knife and stabbed him to death. It’s such a sad and shocking incident.”

Both the husband and wife were immediately arrested by the police and are currently in custody at the Dugbe Police Division in Osogbo. Yemisi Opalola, the spokesperson for the Osun Police Command, confirmed the incident, stating that investigations are ongoing. The remains of Bishop Olaribigbe have been deposited at the morgue of UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital.
